Sis Yohnk scribeth...
>What is the purpose of the baptism of the Holy Ghost?
There was a subject thread I started last year called (I think)...
"What good is the Holy Ghost?"
... that some took offense by. I think, by enlarge, the saints on
the list were able to say *why* it's good to have the Holy Ghost.
And they stated *yes* they have the Holy Ghost. And they even showed
the requirements of needing the Holy Ghost. And they even gave symptoms
of still having the Holy Ghost, but it was never answered as to ... why?
>The primary purpose is so we are born again or so we can become a part of
>the kingdom of God.
>
>John 3:5 "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water
>and of spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."
I think this shows the necessicity of needing the Holy Ghost.... not
the "primary purpose".
<snip>
>The Holy Ghost is also given to us so we can dwell in a place of rest.
>Hebrews 4 is one of my favorite chapters in the Bible. It explains how,
>even though we have the Holy Ghost and are born again, that there is a
>place of rest that we must strive to enter into.
The Holy Ghost ... is definitely the "rest" and "refreshing"...
Isa 28:12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye
may cause the weary to rest; and this is the
refreshing: yet they would not hear.
Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your
sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing
shall come from the presence of the Lord;
I think to answer the question of "What is the primary purpose of the
Holy Ghost?", one must go back to the time of Christ when he was talking
to his disciples about the Holy Ghost. Ya also gotta go back to the
OT when God talks of "the promise" or "covenants".
