There was a "well published and widely acclaimed evangelist", (There are
some adjectives for you!) who while in one set of meetings made a tape
recording of hell and used to play it during altar calls. My brother-in-law
tells me his calls were weird, as he would turn off a bunch of lights and
then play this tape. He had "thousands" flock to those altars, and not too
many come around for over six months. I know this scares some, but it made
me kinda sickened to think we would stoop to Hollywood-ization of the
Gospel.
The recording was made by holding a microphone to a pan of bacon frying,
then replaying that while the "cast" made shrieks, and moans. All the while,
a 7 year old wails, "Help me, I'm burning".
Weird.
