First of all let me say that I have only a basic, rudimentry knowledge of
endtime prophecy. I sure there
are others on this list who have studied it far more than I have. The main
reason I submitted that post
was to stimulate some discussion on this topic as it relates to current
events.

I also agree for the most part with Bro. Reeds comments concerning erroneous
endtime ideas
and theories. However I would like to make a few observations.

1) We now
have a European Union (EU) now that has begun producing its own currency.
In effect we have
a "United States of Europe". Common endtime prophecy interpretation usually
includes a united
Europe that will be thrown into turmoil and from this turmoil a leader will
arise who will be the Antichrist.
Is the conflict in Yugoslavia this turmoil, I don't know.

2) The United States military has virtually been dismantled. It is only a
shadow of what it was when we
invaded Iraq. The fact is that if we got into a major conventional war in
Europe, there would be
very little force left to protect our own borders. When we invaded Iraq our
military was supposedly
able to fight two major "fronts" and one minor "front". I believe a weakened
military combined with
the attitude of our president towards Israel may be why there seems to be no
assistance to Israel
from the U.S. when Jerusalem is surrounded by the nations (Zech 12:3). Also
it is interesting to
note that Hillary Clinton openly advocates a Palestinian State. I also
believe that in May 1999
negotiations are scheduled to take place concerning the future of "east"
Jerusalem.

3) I believe the U.S. has set a precedent by going into Yugoslavia, becoming
involved in a civil war
and taking sides and trying to help set up a state of Kosovo. The mold has
been cast for the U.N.
(and / or maybe Russia) to come to the aid of the Palestinians and try to
force Israel to grant
the Palestinians statehood and give up control of part or all of Jerusalem.

4) (I'm just throwing this in for something to kick around) In two years
Bill Clinton is going to be looking
for a job -- how about Secretary General of the U.N.?
