Higher-Fire Postings, Approval, and Delivery

Greetings Saints in Jesus name!

A question was sent in from one of the saints of Higher-Fire that I
thought the "reply" was worthy as informative for all to read. I'll
start out with the questioner's salutation and my comment and then
comment on the question following:

+-----------------------------------------+
Thank you for your time, and God Bless!
+-----------------------------------------+

"Thanks" have been coming in on a more regular basis than when this
originally became a moderated list... It seemed that at-first it
truly was a "thankless" time-consuming job. Recently, I've seen many
more notes of appreciation of the moderators duties than in the past.
I appreciate it very much.

I'm hoping that Bro. Richard is gettings the "thanks" as much as I
have. I wouldn't want him not to participate in the appreciation of
the subscribers of the list when in fact he was the one who started
the Higher-Fire list. I didn't start the moderation/co-owner thing until
a couple of weeks prior to his extended vacation just this last Feb-Mar '96.

+-----------------------------------------------------------------+
I was wondering when the list software sends out the messages
for a certian day, and what time zone you are located in. Once
I deduce this, I will know what time to check my mail. If this
is not possible, or if there is no central time it sends out,
please inform me of my ignorance!
+-----------------------------------------------------------------+

Digests, for those in "digest" mode where you get one piece of email
for each day of approved posts, are delivered at 12:01 am. So, if there
were 15 approvals, the digestee will receive one piece of email with the
combined texts of all 15 posts.

Realize that Bro. Richard and I probably don't approve many requests outside
of the time frame of 9am - 5pm central time (during our work "day"). And on
the weekends we may not log in cuz' we've got lives outside of the list, etc.
too! Since every message sent to the list is approved by myself or Bro.
Richard, it requires that one of us to be online for the approval process.
Generally, we try to keep the messages per day down to about 25 pieces of
email since some people don't like lots and lots of mail waiting in their
emailbox.

Also Bro. Richard and I trade off moderation duties. We might take it a
day or two at a time before handing it off to the other. When the other
has moderation duties, even though posts could have been approved by the
other moderator earlier/sooner, we let just one on duty approve/discard the
posts as a rule of courtesy. Sometimes, we get so busy at work that we can't
devote the time necessary to adequately keep track of what's being posted
and approval/discard may be delayed even more.

I think that once a post has been officially approved (by that meaning the
listprocessor software has received a piece of email from me or Bro. Richard
saying that message #112 and #113 and #114 have been approved and that #110,
#111, and #115 should be discarded) the listproc pretty much sends it out
right away (in conjunction with the current load at prairienet.org which
might postpone the delivery).

So, generally speaking, posts are approved as they arrive and as we are
available to approve them. If they come in after 5pm (or the weekend), you
might not see the post till the next business day. If you post during the
day, you'll probably see it that day unless the listserver doesn't get the
notification to us before we leave work in the evening (that has happened).

I think I'm going to send a form of this "reply" sent to you, to the list.
As just something that would be informative for all on the list to see.

Bro. Tyler
