I think it is rather scary how Germanic the result of these lexical
perversions turns out.  The *REAL* danger, however, is not "lexical
drift", but "semantic drift" -- deliberate calculated slight changes
in the meanings, and insinuations, associated with words and idioms.
Since language is fundamental to organized thought, changing the
meaning of language is a subtle way to change the way people think.
It is a standard New Age tactic, and was recommended by Alice Bailey
as early as 1938.  

The classic example that comes to mind is "gay".  It used to mean
"happy, carefree, exuberant", but now means homosexual as its primary
meaning; these other meanings have taken second place.  The purpose,
obviously, is to get us to associate the attributes of "happy" and
"carefree" with homosexuality.  Reality has a way of sprouting backup
from the rots, however, as the result of the homosexual popularization
movement has been a spread of a deadly disease that was unknown 20
years ago!

I am sure you can think of other words whose meaning has been
deliberately manipulated by groups with an agenda.
