I have a question which I don’t believe is of significance salvation
wise,
Q: Is it wrong for a Christian to defend himself or his family,
Physically, or with
a weapon.
I was recently asked this question and could not give an honest
answer. In my flesh I feel compelled that
if someone were to try to break into my home to harm my family …. It
would not go well for them. Would I be wrong to defend my home and
family?
If I were to get jumped on the street,(Not likely to happen, I am over
6’3 and … over 300 lb.) but if I did get mugged would it be wrong to
defend myself.
I can site several instances in scripture where Violence was used to
defend, Including where Jesus was arrested and Peter pulled out his
sword and cut off the ear. (he was carrying a weapon and I doubt he had
previously concealed it from the Lord.)
Yet I can also site several instances where I can see in scripture that
Christians should be passive, (If you live by the sword you shall die
by the sword) Turn the
other cheek. Etc.
Most of the Apostles died violent deaths passively along with thousands
of early church saints.
I know that a subject like this is likely to have as many different
opinions as you have folks addressing it.
What do you think?
