Regarding the discussion of "what if someone harms my family, should I
defend them [meaning attack the intruder]?":
Many people believe that the aphorism "God helps those who help
themselves" is scripture.
>From http://www.strang.com/nm/stories/nm896c5.htm, we find:
The Barna Research Group recently surveyed 1,007 American adults and
found that many born-again Christians exhibit surprisingly high levels
of ignorance on the following core Christian beliefs:
80 percent of born-again Christians agree with the statement,
"the Bible teaches that God helps those who help themselves." The
Bible does not make this claim.
In reality, Benjamin Franklin wrote it in _Poor Richard's Almanack_ in
1736; therefore, if we add "the book of Benjamin" to our holy cannon,
then we might be able to pull it off.
