Please be careful of this practice. Many of the 'new age' ideas are
taught. The philosophy of Buddhism and Zen and Shinto are interwoven
into the martial arts. When they teach meditation and concentration
(focus of power) or Chi, they are teaching that you can do this in and
of yourselves. The physical part is good, the teaching ofself-discipline is
good, but to go to higher levels you have to get intoideas that are more 'new
age', and you might not be comfortable withthose ideas. It is more than
'exercise' it can become a lifestyle.

This is something of a area that I have always been interested in as well.
But when I did study it, the physical part as bro. Lasater said, it is good
for the health of the body. BUt the mind was something I also studied.
I almost completely lost out with God because of it. I was even able to
focus sometimes to affect people around me it seemed. As far as I can
see, it can be a tool for the devil to take over your life as the last time I
actually used the symbols to focus my thoughts, an evil presense entered the
place I was at and came for me. I had to cry out to God and
find a place of refuge in order to keep control over my life. I was backslide
at the time which proabably was the reason that this even
happened. Just be careful if you do get into it though I *Strongly* discourage
people from getting into the focusing part of the martial arts.
