There is a brother in my church whom took a martial arts class as
an elective at school many years ago. He did not fair to well in the
class because he refused to do some of the things they asked. Here
is what he told me at the time:
In martial arts your teacher is also your sensa(sp?)
In other words he is your master. At the beginning of many martial
arts classes, you normally bow to your master as a sign of obedience.
He had a hard time dealing with that and took the Bible at its Word when
it said you shall have no other gods before me. He refused to let the
teacher be his master, and he refused to bow. Other than that, he had no
problems learning the martial arts.
My personal opinions is that I have heard and also believe that martial
arts can
help train a person in self-discipline. However, many people take the
martial
arts training and use it for the wrong purpose. I don't like the idea of
meditation,
or calling the teacher, your master, and I don't believe I would want to
bow to them
know matter how silly it may be at the time.
God Bless,
