**Believing** is called work by Jesus himself.
"Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the
work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent."
John 6:29
Therefore, even those who claim salvation by believing alone
are actually claiming salvation by a work [said in the same
spirit as Paul when he said "I speak as a man"]
Believing is but the first and most vital aspect of man's
responsibility in salvation. As I said before, if faith alone,
apart from any other thing, as a mental ascent or as a
positive confession, is all that is required, then all men are
saved for all men (mankind) is given a measure of faith.
To me, there are few more convincing suppositions
(arguments, if you will) than quoting Romans 12:3 an
asking "then why aren't all men saved, if all that is
necessary is faith alone?"
To suprdave:
Dave, I ask you to stay on the list and keep responding.
We all open ourselves up to criticism anytime we
espouse our own opinions. I am sorry if you feel
unjustly attacked. This forum is/should be a place to
bring questions and opinions concerning the bible,
religion and any aspect of salvation/theology to light and
see if they stand up under close scrutiny. I see it as
kind of like an electron microscope where even our
deepest and most heartfelt beliefs can be challenged
with relative impunity. I disagree with Tom Lasater in
saying that we don't love our Neighbor, doesn't God
Himself correct those He loves. Please don't **anybody**
get me wrong here, I am not claiming for myself the
right to correct anyone in the place of God, I am just
proposing that perhaps the motives of those who
responded to the thread of these posts have had a
good thought in mind, to expose error and shed light,
rather than a desire to contentiously attack.
