This verse was used first in response to my post regarding
scare-tactics. I appreciated the viewpoints and considered
them.
However, this verse begins with, ' And others, save with fear...'
So am I to go to someone who is perishing in the fire and USE
fear to pull them out? I can't see that. This word fear is in the
same sense that we are admonished to 'fear God!' In this
scenario, the fear must be on the rescuer. You fear the
danger for them and yourself. How many victims in a
precarious situation, will respond to fear as a tool of rescue?
Ironically, the preceding verse said, "And of some have
compassion, making a difference:" You will notice that
the Bible ends that verse with a colon. It is part of the
following verse and considered all one statement.
To me, it is the situation where an archaic language is
being used in an up-town, sophisticated society. I hope
that this post has not been construed as argumentative, for
it was not intended to be. I don't agree with strong-arm,
scare tactics to reach a dying, suffering world. Sadly, Apostolic
Pentecost, especially UPC, has been using both for years.
I think I will wait a while to give my opinion on the
pre; per; and post rapture issue. Ernie...
