There's been a lot of conjecturing, but no apparent attempt to
examine the evidence.

The first step is to look at the sources Bro Shaw's friend is referring
to.

The next step is to attempt to find other primary and other sources
from the time period we're discussing. We're talking searches of
titles and other legal records. Newspaper articles would also be
sources of information.

After that is locating people who have survived from that period or
their descendants.  I know several people from Louisiana are online;
perhaps they can point in the right direction. An index of Louisiana
UPC congregations online can be found at the UPC index:

 http://www.upci.org/churches/

There's also the UPC directory -- perhaps a letter sent to each
minister in Louisiana explaining your research and asking for details.

I don't know if there would be anybody still alive from that period,
and they certainly wouldn't tell their descendants that they stole
property from the AOG even if they did it, but perhaps some useful
information can be gleaned from the oral history.

For any college professors out there, perhaps this would be a good idea
for a book -- with enough personal anecdotes it might even be
interesting reading. Your graduate assistants can do all the grunt
work :-)
