Couple of Questions concerning Meat

Other translations translate that word as "vegetables." According to
the dictionary (Random House Webster's College Dictionary 1991
Edition), a secondary definition of pulse is "1. the edible seeds of
certain leguminous plants, as peas or beans. 2. a plant producing such
seeds. [1250-1300; ME puls ( < OF pouls) < L: porridge of spelt or
another grain. Cf. POULTICE ]"
So Daniel ate lentil soup, or perhaps cornbread and beans :-)

I don't believe so, but I don't know for sure. I always thought it was
weird that Catholics considered fish acceptable on "meatless" Fridays,
but that's because I grew up in Japan where fish is a primary source of
protein.
I suppose New England clam chowder would be doubly un-kosher: clam is a
scaleless "fish," and it's cooked in milk.
