Yep.... not only does it chew up disk space, but for those that pay for a
long-distance call to retrieve their e-mail.... it *costs* them more money
to to download the reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally
long posts. For posts that aren't read for the sheer length of it, that's
an awful lot. I'll admit that I've not been paying much attention to the
thread because there's just too much time that I'd have to *devote* to such
provocative thought if'n I were to jump into it and get involved. As stated
by others, too much to digest and comprehend at a single time.
I'll admit that the humor I've been posting lately has been in really really
large chunks. For the most part, it should be easily digestable as it's not
one long related stream of thought like the recent postings have been in the
longer and deeper subject threads. It requires more attention (and a longer
time span) to get through the posts, think about them, try and interpret
what's going on, before forming an opinion in order to reply. It's almost
like reading a document that's riddled with "legalease" that just goes on
and on and on. By the time you're at the end... you've forgotten the
points at the beginning that eventually brought you to the end.
Is there netiquette rules and regulations agin that? Naw. Nothing that
specifically addresses this kind of situation. What would it be akin to?
Sitting in a fellowship hall .... not knowing a foreign language (or even
a knowledge of computer terms maybe) ... when two (or more) start to speak
the language you don't know (maybe they jabber about computers/operating
systems/cpu's/internet connectivity) and you're caught there in the middle.
You have to hear every word. And you catch and understand bits and pieces.
But for the most part, you have little or no interest in what's being said
but are subject to it anyway. The conversation takes an Energizer Bunny
attribute .... and you're stuck there. Glued to your seat, forced to listen
to this nonesensical jibberish while the participants have a great time.
Naw. No netiquette against that.
