If I'm not mistaken, that's exactly what happened.  Which explains why the
kid didn't spend the nite in jail.  Which explains how he managed to kill
his parents sometime before going right back to school the next day.  He
was released into their custody, the parents tried to contact some
therapists...the kid shot them.
What I want to know is, why on earth didn't someone speak up who had heard
the kid making the threats in the first place?  Teachers heard him. 
Students heard him.  No one said a word until it was too late.
