Pastor Wright preached a fantastic message on Sunday night that I
would like to share with you. One of his points was on how we measure
our spirituality. He said that most young Christians measure how they
are doing by their circumstances. If things are going well then God
is pleased, if things are not going well then God must be upset about
something. After they mature a little they realize that God uses the
trials of life to teach us about Him. You can start to appreciate
problems. We then measure how we are doing by our devotion to God.
How many hours a day have we prayed? Did we listen to everything God
had to say today? Did we witness to everyone God placed on our heart?
All of these are necessary, but they do not determine our standing
with God.

Our standing with God is based on faith. God alone imparts faith. We
only accept what He has given. Hebrews says that Jesus Christ is the
author and finisher of our faith. Our place is set in Him.

Don't misunderstand me. I John says that we must walk in the light.
We have a responsibility to walk in Him. The goodness of God leads us
to repentance. However, we can have an unshakable confidence in our
salvation and fellowship with God because our walk with Him is based
on faith - not our performance.
