Okay, I see -- there's a need to make a social statement, or perhaps
there's the shock factor to the parents.

I'm Japanese/Italian/Native American (weird mix, heh? :-) .. My wife
is a blond, blue-eyed, white as Wonderbread, prone to skin-cancer
Swede. I assure you, when we were married it was not to make any kind
of statement other than that we love one another and are committed to
each other. I was naive enough to be surprised when my wife suggested
that my (Japanese) mother might be a little upset that I didn't marry a
Japanese girl instead. (BTW, I doubt very much the thought entered my
mother's mind. Hard to find Japanese women in north Texas ;-).

BUT -- I also don't doubt that this kind of stuff (shocking the parents,
making social statements) happens.

You're an incredibly sharp guy too, Bro Bassett! You have a way with
words which I can only describe as gifted.
