Baptism first.

Brethren,

Last week whilst attending camp at Iowa, we had Bro. Jack Cunningham
preaching the evening services and he made some observations about the
sequence of baptism and receiving the Holy Ghost that I'd like to explore a
little more.

I agree totally that repentance has to come first, and that there is _no_
evidence of persons receiving the holy ghost without repentance, but whist I
agree that it is recorded in the bible about Cornelius and his family being
filled with the spirit before baptism, have you considered why Peter
*commanded* them to be baptised straightaway? My understanding is that
because salvation is the actuality of the type given in the tabernacle plan,
Peter realised that Cornelius had gone straight from the brazen alter
(repentance) bypassed the laver (baptism) and had gone straight into the
holy place (receiving the Holy Ghost) and that according to the Law it was
death to step into the holy place without washing (being baptised).

I conceed that it seems that people get the Holy Ghost before baptism, but
according to all the principles of the Lord, that baptism should be first. I
would appreciate input from anyone who can explain why there are some who
seem to circumvent this requirement.

Bro. Simon
