Actually, the sentiment on this subject varies widely from church to
church. There are churches where any jewlry is frowned upon, and
churches where certain items are permitted, and even a few where most
items are permited.
It is important to understand that visitors and sinners, and even new
converts, do not usually adhere to these standards because they either
have never heard of them, or they do not understand them. Most
pastors are rather gentle when they touch on the subject, so as not to
offend members of this group. If a person starts coming regularly to
church, and especially if they repent, or even get baptized or regeice
the Holy Ghost, then they are usually desiring to become closer to God
and will assimilate many of these standards without explicit
instruction on the subject. Thay just follow the example set by the
other saints.
Since I am a minister, but not yet a pastor, I am careful to offend
none. I wear no jewlry, although my wife does wear a wedding and
engagement ring set.
I have preached a message that makes an analogy between an engagement
ring and the Holy Ghost as one of the illustrations.
