Quite right. In fact, if folks check out Isaac's "courtship" of Rebekkah in
the OT, they might find it a bit disturbing. Not only did Isaac give
Rebekkah bracelets, but also a *nose-ring*!!! - which she dutifully wore.
The good 'ole KJV calls it an "earring", but modern translations more
correctly recognize that you don't wear an earring on the face!

Gen 24:47 (NASB):

"Then I asked her, and said, 'Whose daughter are you?', And she said, 'The
daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bore to him'; "and I put the
RING on her nose, and the bracelets on her wrists." (see also NIV, RSV)

So there you have it, "engagement" rings *are* Biblical -- you're just a
pagan if you wear them on your finger! ;-) [hee hee..I'm kidding
folks...really!]

Charles [a guy who still only wears a single wedding band on his finger, and
sometimes a cheap watch on his wrist - so I *must* be holy, right?]
