Rob,
I feel that most, if not all, secular music is bad.
No the national anthem is not bad because it is based on the
freedom of this country. When you mentioned about songs talking
about having fun and things like that I feel you must ask yourself
why are we here on earth? I know that sounds far fetched but are
we *really* here to have fun or are we here to spread the gospel
and witness to lost souls? I am not saying you cannot have fun
in doing things but music is a different subject. I personally
do listen to some secular music. I have some Harry Connick Jr
tapes and a Kenny G cd. I will say that I no longer buy
Harry Connick Jr tapes because of his change in style.
I bought a DC talk cd and a Jars of clay cd earlier in
the year. I found quickly that dc talk had changed their style
and from the looks of the guys on the back cover, they had changed
their looks. After seeing this, I quit listening to their music.
Another situation I found myself in was a sunday morning driving
to church I flipped on the radio and started looking for a good
song. I stopped on a jars of clay song and listened to it. At the
end of the song, the dj says.."your listening to the x...xxx103fm!"
This is Indy's wordly alternative station. Jars of clay was being
played right next to green day and all of those hellbound groups.
That was the last time I listened to them.
Because of these situtions, I no longer listen to the
"christian" radio station. The Indy Christian radio station plays
many artist that are also played on wordly radio stations. They
are trying to get the best of both worlds and that is not what
a christian is suppose to do. We are to shun evil and be either
hot or cold. When we listen to "wordly" music are we being hot or
cold for christ?
