Lynn,
I read your comments about music and rings.
I have to say that standards are not piddily little things.
Yes you are right that people worry to much about the *other*
person and not enough about there own appearance. But if we
*were* to quit worrying about standards, the Apostolic church
as we know it would no longer be the same. It would become as
wordly as the rest of the mainstream churches.
A little example. At the Indiana church camp this year
I was told by a camper that they thought the *rules* were to
strict. What were these *rules*? They were things like,
no make-up, finger nail polish, no holding hands(the 6 inch rule).
I thought about what was said and looked at the crowd of people.
What I seen were many people already "trying" the *rules*.
If we were to let down on the standards just a little bit,
we are going to be in trouble.
I myself uphold the standards of the UPCI as much as
I can and then in some cases I take them a step further.
Why? Because I know if I follow these standards(no matter
how silly some seem) they will help me in staying Holy.
Now the standard itself will not make me Holy, but with those
set, and my prayers, fasting, etc. All of these things combined
WILL make me Holier than if I did not do these things.
