I agree. I try to get CDs by anybody who's UPC or at least Holy-Ghost-filled (which I realize does not
necessarily mean they're any better than anyone else, but I can at least be sure they know the truth, which
hopefully will show up in their music).

I liked what another brother said about this, that if it makes you *feel* Jesus, it's good. There is
Pentecostal music out there that has great rhythms and funky beats that get my toes a-tappin', but the test is
if I feel Jesus in it... but that doesn't mean someone else will.
For example, "The Man", sung by Pentecostals of Chicago and written by Darius Brooks of that same group, is a
hip-hoppin' black gospel tune that, at first listen, you would think would just be something fun to listen to.
Well, when the choir starts out with "I want to see the Man that saved my soul/ I want to see the Man that
suffered, bled and died for me/ for me/ for me", I can't help but cry. Now, someone else may not feel what I
do.
Music and how it affects people is a very subjective topic. Christian rock and rap are definitely misnomers...
there is no such thing... but the rest of what's out there can be offensive to one and minister to another.
If I were your brother-in-law, I would ask the youth this: "When you listen to a particular song, what do you
begin to think? Are you reflecting on what the lyrics are saying and thinking about how it applies to your
life, or are you groovin' and jivin' with the tune?" One of these situations usually supercedes the other.
Thanks for reading all of this!
