The reaction from the scientific community has been of skepticism, as
Bro Rich Brown reported. Even Carl Sagan, who is an avid proponent of
the possibility of E.T. life, doesn't believe the evidence points to
life on Mars.
Nevertheless, I haven't heard any disputes about the origin of the rock
being from Mars. It's thought a huge comet hit Mars throwing massive
amounts of material into space. Eventually, some of those chunks of
material landed in the antarctic, so the theory goes. To me, this
doesn't seem especially far-fetched.
