                             CHOOSING

I wakened this morning with the words of Heb 11:25 ringing in my mind. It
reads: "Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to
enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;"

The verse ahead of that one tells us that in his CHOOSING, he also had to do
some REFUSING. Hebrews 11:24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years,
refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;

There are many CHOOSINGS in life. Some of them, the Lord makes for us--
such as parents, size, sex, body shape, etc.

But the MOST IMPORTANT choosings become OUR RESPONSIBILITY. This is
especially true of our walk with the Lord.

Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this
day whom ye will serve;

Not only do we have to choose in our PERSOANL lives, but also in our SOCIAL
and BUSINESS lives. Exodus 23:32 Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor
with their gods. Exodus 23:33 They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they
make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a
snare unto thee.

Our marriages MUST BE INFLUENCED by the rules of God, or we are headed for
trouble. Exodus 34:16 And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and
their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make thy sons go a whoring
after their gods.

Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you,
[that] I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore
choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

Ruth stands out as a wonderful example of choosing correctly the direction
her life should take. She was wise, and she reaped the benefits of her
choice that day. Ruth 1:16 And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, [or]
to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and
where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people [shall be] my people, and thy
God my God:

Esther had a crucial decision to make, and she, too, made a wise choice.
Esther 4:16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan,
and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I
also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king,
which [is] not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.

The wisest man who ever lived tells of the sorry end of those who make
improper choices for their lives. Proverbs 1:29 For that they hated
knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of my
counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the
fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

He also gave this admonition: Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all
thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways
acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
