Bro. Chris:

This has definitely been a problem lately. With artists like Amy Grant and
Michael W. Smith going secular, where does it end?

Carman said something in a concert once that made me stop and listen more
closely to my favorite artists. "If you're looking for veiled references to
God, you've come to the wrong place." This is so true. He is one of the
only artists around in mainstream comtemporary music to actually mention God
and Jesus in every single song! Even his music has gone a little wild
lately.

The Imperials were always my favorite group but I was majorly disappointed
when I had to check the CD case to make sure it was them. Their lyrics left
a lot to be desired. I wanted something to lift my spirits and to help me
worship the Lord. And sometimes I had to guess what they were singing about?
For instance, "Wild Geese"? and even some of the lyrics in Change the World
were a little iffy.

Back to your question. I think you have to just listen to the songs at the
book store and if they don't prompt you to worship and praise then don't buy
them.

I've had to be really careful lately as I am spending more time with our
youth group. I recently found out I have influence some of the kids in the
music they wish to buy. This is a major responsibility and sometimes a
little scary.

God Bless.
