It is true that as the world moves farther into left field in dress and
behavior, it gives us the appearance of being more extreme. In actuality,
we have not moved- they have. However, we do not gauge our standards of
dress by comparing ourselves to oothers, be it the world or the Amish. A
standard by definition, is something that everything else is compared to. A
standard weight or measure, is one which all other measures are compared to.

As such, we must base our standards on Scriptural teachings of modesty and
holiness- not as a *reaction* to what is happening in the world. I even
heard a preacher comment recently that he was going to stand against the
boys in his church who were getting their hair 'buzzed' because men 'of the
world' were doing this. Huh?! Our standards aren't based on them, it is
based on Scripture and convictions.

So far as the Amish, we had a neighboring church a couple of years ago that
was really on the deep end who began to emulate the Amish in their dress in
order to be more 'holy.' In truth, they brought a great deal of attention
to themselves by this style of dress. Drawing attention to ourselves is
hardly my idea of modesty.

Just my thoughts.
