I just tried to find a passage in "Born in Blood [Robinson]", a
treatise on the origins of Freemasonry, that documents an account of a
group of people having "fits" outside a Catholic church in England
somewhere around 1100-1300.  The observation was made by a bishop, who
was quite disturbed by the episode.  This thing is not new!
