I think it depends on a lot of things, Bro Jerry.
Some troops consist of people (parents) who are generally moral, and
looking for a way to shape and develop character. In this type of
enviromnent, you can be a great help to the community as well as
providing for children's fellowship.
Others seem to be on a completely different track. The leaders and
parents make all the difference. You know the UPCI has a Scouting
ministry, which helps to get scout groups started.
My son is not into scouting, and this is a judgement that I made
because of his nature, and my feeling that we needed to maintain a
very majority share of his life as long as possible. Because of some
personal things, and the responsibilities I have otherwise, I simply
could not invest in becomeing as influential in a scout troop as I
felt it was necessary if my son were to be a part of it.
We do participate in a local 4-H however, and the benefits are great.
Besides, the Lord has provided lots of contacts and kids that can come
to Children's outreach things by this means. And, the families that do
this here, also have similar values.
Life is day by day... Gods blessings do seem to navigate these
diffuclt areas with prayer and fasting.
