I hate to disagree about the your point Robert but this is a soap box of mine.
Yes you are right to say that it teaches leadership but the teachers that are
being trained today in Physical Education are being trained to teach Being
fit and healthy living.  We are to show that athletics can help keep you fit
but also to show that their are a variety of things available beside athletics.
By the way, I was the one always picked last for kickball and basketball but
yet kept it up and played soccer and ran track on varsity programs.  
If they do away with Physical education, not only will it effect kids
health wise but it will also do away with the one class that can help 
relieve the stress of everyday studies.  
You seemed to be also down on art.  Art os a big area of life no matter
where you go.  Billboards, books, houses, Churches, etc are all art in
some shape or form.  Art was used in the earlier ages to translate ideas
and tell stories.  If it was not for art, many things of the past could not
of been told.
