The secret to Michael Jordan's income success is residuals -- the
ability to earn income based on work you have already done.  You do
not have to be an athelete to do this.  There are ways anyone can
develop significant residual income.  I had a friend (now dead) who
was in the hospital for 6 months, but not only did his income keep
coming in, but it actually grew!  His wife has now inherited the
residual income flow that he made possible, so she is in good shape
financially.  Try to get your employer to let your wife inherit your
income when you die!
