Well, I must agree with you because religious schooling was all the
schooling there was. Given the parents and the rabbis taught
religion, but did they not also teach reading, so one could read the
scriptures? Where did the Jewish children learn arithmetic, or
geometry? History was obviously in the Bible, but where did they
learn music? How about the sciences? Or engineering? Engineering,
especially civil and military, were important in Bible times too.
I believe that the rabbis taught these higher academic subjects as
well as theology. Many parents would not have the knowledge
themselves.
So I beleive it takes both home and church schooling, and they should
cover religous and secular topics.

In this light, it is very interesting that a fundamental tenet of
Freemasonry, at least in *THIS* country, is the existence of free
