Dear Brondon,
You speaka' my language when you talk music! =) I am the former
choir director at United Pentecostal Assembly of Bellflower,
California. I play piano, organ, keys and sing and write some, sing in
the choir and get solos from time to time. I teach parts. I took some
music at a junior college and learned how to read notes but haven't
done it in so long I probably forgot! I can read chords well but I play
by ear even better. I play and sing mostly black gospel style but I can
be versatile too. I play for weddings, public school choirs, funerals
(though I don't like to) and anhthing I can. Our choir has toured
through Oregon, Washington and Canada. If you'd like to book our choir
drop me a line and I'll see what we can do. We had a music director
after me for a year and when he left I offered the choir to another
lady in our church because I work, and have a family to take care of so
I just don't have time. Now she organized the choir and I learn or
teach the songs.
My daughter is a singer. She is 15 and auditioned for L.A. High
School for the Arts and she made it. She will be attending High School
at the Cal State College campus and the classes are taught by the
college teachers. It will be like a college load and by the time she
graduates from high school she will already have college credits! A
great opportunity. She's a very annointed singer with a God given
talent and she does not take that for granted! Every time we hear her
it blesses us! She gets about half the solos in the choir.
How 'bout soundmen? That's my husband's department! He's a good
one. He's installed sound systems for many UPC churches across the U.S.
He knows his stuff! He's our church soundman and also does sound for a
living. He was flown to Arizona to work the Super Bowl and has done
other artists such as Whitney Housten, Kenny G, Celine Dion and more.
He says it's just a job but he loves it. Now the church part is MORE
than a job. He's engineered a few albums such as Dave Peterson's last
recording (original Lanny Wolfe Trio) and Steve Saiz.
I'll probably remember something else after I send this but that
should be enough anyway.
    God bless!

    Laurie Gibson =)
