Praise the Lord, everyone:

When I related the story about my non-Apostolic friend who justified
wearing a beard by using the Scripture Deuteronomy 22:5, I did not
realize that I was raising such a hairy <grin> subject. I apologise
to all those whose hackles (or should it be manes <grin>) I may have
inadvertently raised.

My point was not the issue of beards at all per se. That was intended to be
an example of how someone interpreted a particular Scripture. I was
focused on the Scripture - not the issue. What I was hoping for and
am still hoping for are some comments about using that Scripture to
defend a lifestyle or fashion because it is based on a physical
attribute of a sex. My purpose for writing is to ask my brethren and
sisters for their help in rightly dividing the Word of Truth - not to
flame on about beards. I think that there may possibly be implications here
for Apostolics that go far beyond beards. Let's take an utterly
ridiculous example: Would anyone try to defend the "right" of men to
be violent by using this Scripture? I certainly hope not!!! Yet this
perhaps might be the type of thing the devil will attempt to do when
he tries to deceive the very elect - justify a sinful lifestyle by
referring to the Scriptures. So what do you think?

Brother Ward
