The nearest lake is Homer Lake, and it's *definitely* not swimmable.
Central Illinois is corn&soybean country -- big corporate farms with
lots of fertilizer which runs off into streams and rivers and lakes.

Makes for some really gooey bodies of water around here; more slime
that water, actually.  The pastor might dunk the baptizee under the
lake, and the baptizee might never come back up out of that goop :-/

It's even worse than the "tanks" (man-made ponds for cattle drinking
water) in Texas and Oklahoma that cows like to hang out in when it's
hot.

I have volunteered the use of my swimming pool in the past, though this
year I never opened the pool up since they were doing all the
construction on our house.
