California to Decide Same-Sex "Marriage" Status

A second bill to stop the legalization of homosexual "marriage" in
California is scheduled for a key vote in the Legislature on Aug. 28.
SB 2075, introduced by state Sen. Ray Haynes, R-Riverside, is the
only remaining legislation with any hope of banning recognition of
same-sex marriage. If this bill passes the Senate Judiciary Committee
and reaches the Senate floor, it could succeed.
The original bill, AB 1982, introduced by Assemblyman Pete Knight,
R-Palmdale, was killed when the Democratic majority in the Senate
refused to remove the "domestic partners" amendments from it. The
Haynes bill, SB 2075, cannot have any amendments, and will be a
straight up or down vote.
Californians have put tremendous pressure on the Legislature about
this issue in recent months. However, more pressure is needed to ensure
a victor as the final vote approaches.
"We are so close to success," said Randy Thomasson, assistant
director of Capitol Resource Institute in Sacramento. "If enough
people make the phone calls to the Senate Judiciary Committee, and the
bill goes to the Senate floor, we believe it will passs. The senators
cannot hide behind the domestic partners plan like they did with AB
1982."
Three Democrats on the committee have publicly claimed to oppose
same-sex marriage. The votes of at least two of these swing Democrats
are needed to approve SB 2075 and send it to the Senate floor.

TAKE ACTION: Contact the following legislators on the Senate
Judiciary Committee and urge them to vote "Yes" on SB 2075.

    Jack O'Connell 916-445-5405 fax 916-322-3304

    Nick Petris 916-445-6567 fax 916-327-1997

    Hilda Solis 916-445-1418 fax 916-445-0485

    Charles Calderon 916-327-8315 fax 916-327-8755

Also call your own state senator in Sacramento and urge him or her
to oppose homosexual mariage by voting "Yes" on SB 2075.
