SEVEN PROMISES
Several years ago my attention was drawn to the seven churches of Asia, and
the promises which were given to "him/he that overcometh."
About that same time, I heard a visiting Evangelist (C.M. Yadon) make the
statement that there were two kinds of Christians-- those who please God, and
those who don't please Him.
Subsequent study has proven conclusively that Christians ARE divided into
categories-- dependent upon the progress they make in God AFTER they are
saved.
Salvation is easy to come by. Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride
say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst
come. And WHOSOEVER WILL, let him take the water of life FREELY.
But, Jesus said something else about the matter of WHOSOEVER WILL. Mark 8:34
And when he had called the people [unto him] with his disciples also, he
said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, LET HIM DENY HIMSELF, AND TAKE
UP HIS CROSS, AND FOLLOW ME.
Salvation is FREE, but it carries some RESPONSIBILITIES with it, IF WE ARE
PLANNING ON BEING SUCCESSFUL IN OUR CHRISTIAN LIFE. Salvation has ONLY ONE
PROMISE attached to it-- Some sweet day, after it is all over, in the second
resurrection, after having stood at the Great White Throne judgment-- if we
pass the scrutiny-- to make Heaven our eternal home. Saved from hell-- by
the skin of our teeth.
Not so with the Overcomers. They have some wonderful promises from God. You
can "read all about it" in Chapters 2 and 3 of the Revelation of Jesus
Christ. Look at some of them.
Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto
the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life,
which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Revelation 2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto
the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
Revelation 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto
the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna,
and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which
no man knoweth saving he that receiveth [it].
Revelation 2:26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to
him will I give power over the nations:
Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white
raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will
confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my
God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my
God, and the name of the city of my God, [which is] new Jerusalem, which
cometh down out of heaven from my God: and [I will write upon him] my new
name.
Revelation 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my
throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his
throne.
To OVERCOME (nikao Strong's 3528) means to subdue, or conquer, overcome,
prevail, get the victory. All of those definitions (and ways of translating)
convey the thought of battle and struggle.
Socially, Romans 12:21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
Personally, I John 2:14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have
known him [that is] from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men,
because ye are strong, and the WORD OF GOD ABIDETH IN YOU, and ye have
overcome the wicked one.
