I just wanted to give a praise report. Yesterday, Aug. 10, 1999 we held
the funeral for my Papa, one of the greatest influences of my life.
Papa was a longstanding member of a Missionary Baptist Church here in
Douglas, Ga. He was 80 years old. He had asked my brother, an
evangelist with the UPC (Bro. Tim Merritt) to officiate over his
funeral. This was not an easy task for him, but Tim did well. He talked
about how Papa loved the Lord and put him first. He also said that the
little church we were in was the first place he felt God's call on his
life. Tim said that because of Papa's influence on his life, his
ministry had been blessed and that they had seen blinded eyes and deaf
ears opened and had seen crippled people rise out of a wheel chair and
dance before the Lord. As you can imagine, alot of these people had
never heard of such. During a dinner hosted by the church for the
family after the funeral, a man came to my brother. He is a
longstanding member of this church. He wanted to know when he would be
preaching in our area. Tim said he did not know. The man walked away
but came back and said that he was aflicted with a palsy that the
doctors said they could do nothing about and wanted prayer. My brother,
his wife, my sister (also apostolic) and her husband and my nephew and
neice began to pray for him. They encouraged him to claim his healing.
As you can imagine a hush fell and everyone was staring. I don't
believe they had ever seen anyone pray that way before. But soon
another came for prayer, and then another! My Papa knew what we
belived, and he had told me once after hearing my brother preach on the
Godhead, "You know Sheri, I believe every word he said." I believe Papa
knew what he was doing. I give God the praise and hope that many more
were touched that did not come forward. Even in a time such as this,
God moves.
