>>I don't disagree, but I believe music has more applications than these
alone. Worship is the highest calling of music, and it's original
purpose. But I know music can be used to deliver a message like the
Gospel, and sometimes in order to reach different types of people the
message can be presented with different musical styles - including rock.
I have seen God use it, so I know it works.
Just some thoughts...<<
Sorry, but I disagree. I once heard a preacher on a Gospel recording say
something to the effect of "God doesn't need the devil's help to promote His
program." IMHO, "Christian-rock" is an oxymoron (a contradiction of terms). I
was saved when I was 16 years old. Being in the prime of my teen years, I, like
most teenagers who don't know the Lord was caught up in the world of rock music.
I played the drums and would spend hours with my headphones on playing along
with various rock songs. However, it wasn't christian-rock that reached me. In
fact, when I surrendered my life to God, I immediately developed a distaste for
all forms of rock music (including "christian-rock", or perhaps more
appropriately "psudo-christian-rock").
I have heard many argue in favor of "christian-rock" saying that the message is
the most important factor and that "christian-rock" ultimately has a Christian
message. From my experience, the "christian-rock" that is so popular with our
young people contains merely veiled references to God.
The bottom line is that it does, in fact, require different methods to reach
different people with the truth. However, we should not compromise our position
as Christians by resorting to worldly mediums under the guise of reaching the
lost. The Word of God still has the power to change individuals. When God
calls us into His marvelous light we must leave the things of this world
behind, not try to conform them into our lifestyle by applying the label
"christian" to them.
Just one man's opinion.
Yours in Jesus Christ, our King and God,
Bro. Kirk
