>>If we are going to apply this reasoning regarding music, there is no
'style' of music that can be proclaimed pure Christian. Consequently no
music is acceptable under this reasoning.<<

I see your point, but I believe that there is a distinctive difference. Of
course there are many genres of music (country, blue grass, jazz, etc.).
However, it seems to me that out of all the types of music that I can think of
only rock 'n roll has been an "evil" medium from its very conception.

Before I go any further, let me say that this is all my opinion. I am not
adamant about this issue by any means and I am not trying to start an
argument. I am just pointing out a few things. =)

It is often argued that the method is not important, only the message--that the
medium is neutral. This may be true for some mediums of communication (e.g.
computers, etc.). However, I do not believe that rock music is a neutral
medium. I believe that music itself has an emotional power that can be
influential--and this can hold true independent of the lyrics of a particular
song. Cannot instrumental music itself create a mood or influence a persons
thoughts? We need to be careful what kind of atmosphere our music creates.
Just because you throw a few veiled references to God into a rock song does not
necessarily change the overall impact of the song.

It is true that the devil will prevert even the purest of mediums in order to
spread his message. This doesn't mean that all mediums are pure or even neutral
and it *certainly* does not mean that Christians have license to use the devil's
music (rock 'n roll) to spread the Gospel message.

Again...just my opinions. =)

Yours in Christ Jesus,
Bro. Kirk
