>>>I guess this may boil down to the definition of 'Gospel Music'. My
definition is 'Music that pertains to Jesus Christ, either in worship or
the communicating of his message'.
This definition makes no assumption as to the style of the music,
because that is subject to the listener's personal taste.
If we decide that certain styles are unacceptable, where do we draw the
line?
Is bluegrass gospel ok?
Is country gospel ok?
Is Bach ok?
Are Christmas carols ok?<<<

Even though it wasn't my post to which you responded, I would like to reply. I
don't know where to draw the line on this one. Personally, I enjoy listening to
some kinds of music that wouldn't be classified as "Christian." (*shutting eyes,
holding breath, and digging feet into the ground*) =) For instance, I enjoy
instrumental jazz music like "big band" and jazz "combo" stuff. I also know
Pentecostals who enjoy "classical" music. I know that some people may
find fault with this, but I don't see anything wrong with it. I would be very
interested in hearing the reaction of others on this matter. However, I DO
believe that "rock" music (even "christian-rock) is an entirely different
matter (for reasons that I have already articulated).

>>>I've seen and felt the Holy Ghost move powerfully in a room with many
witnesses as I ministered with a 'Contemporary' Gospel song. This to me
confirms the fact that there is a time and place for everything, and
there is a benefit to varying the delivery of the message.<<<

I don't think that "contemporary Christian" music and "christian-rock" are
synonymous. There are many contemporary songs that have been big hits in
Pentecostal churches and I don't see a problem with this.

>>>Let's consider Acts 10 & 11. Peter was criticized for treading on 'new
water'.
But he said, "What was I, that I could withstand God?".
I appreciate your opinions, but if God uses it, that's enough for me!<<<

Taking the text a little out of context here, aren't we, brother?? =) I don't
think that we can accurately compare Peter's commission to preach to the
Gentiles with the acceptability (or non-acceptability) of "christian-rock."
Besides, I am not so sure if the "God used it" test is the best indication of
whether something is right or not as you seem to imply in the above snip. It
appears that God moves at "no-standard", charismatic churches and meetings, but
I would hope that no one on this list would think that this is reason enough to
abandon our standard of holiness. Perhaps (in certain situations) God has
allowed His Spirit to move *in spite* of the type of music that has been
presented.

Again, these are only my opinions and I wish to offend or humiliate no one.
Please accept my thoughts in the spirit of love in which they are intended. =)

Your brother in Jesus Christ, our King and God,
Bro. Kirk
