                     THE LONG DAY

You remember the long day when Joshua needed more time to battle the enemies
he was fighting with. But did you know the rest of the story that follows
behind that?

About fifty years ago, I read about a Professor Totten who was party to a
discovery that the earth, the sun, and the moon are 24 hours out of synch
with the stars. The scientist who had discovered the fact was challenged to
read the Bible to see if he could find the answer there.

He began to read, and, of course, came upon the event recorded in Joshua.
 See Joshua 10:12

Rechecking his figures, he determined that only 23 hours and 20 minutes could
be accounted for in that event. So he returned to Prof. Totten (if my memory
is correct) and asked him if he could explain the difference in time, which
amounted to 40 minutes. He was told to keep reading the Bible.

As he read, he eventually came upon the event of Isaiah having gone to tell
king Hezekiah that he should prepare to die. The king asked for more time,
and was granted 15 years more life.

Isaiah asked him what sign he should ask of the Lord that he had granted the
additional time. Should he ask that the shadow of the sun dial advance 10
degrees or turn BACK 10 degrees? The king noted that the shadow would
NORMALLY advance, so why not have it go back the 10 degrees. See 2 Kings
20:9

It did! Right before their wondering eyes-- it moved back!

The Lord was synchronizing the clocks!!!!

Ten degrees on the sun dial equals 40 minutes.

The scientist had his answer. It added up to 24 hours, exactly

(I believe this article was in Gospel Gleaners about 1942. I can not find it
now.) God Bless!
