Since some are plugging a certain West Coast college here, I would be remiss
if I didn't say something about IBC. Recently, we had a change in music
directors, which, given the high-profile person we had in this position,
SHOULD have caused a drastic decline in our attendance. Also, the fact that
our nearest competitor, Gateway, is on an attendance upswing, SHOULD have
meant a decline in our attendance. Instead, IBC is the largest school in the
Apostolic movement, with an attendance of around 230, approaching the high
levels of Bible college attendance that various schools had back in the early
70s. Many things have contributed to this, but I think one is our school's
approach to education. Some schools have focused SO MUCH on being spiritual,
that they have neglected academic excellence. Others have focused so much on
academic excellence, they've neglected the spiritual. IBC has instead sought
a balance, bringing in qualified men like Paul Mooney (the president, of
course), O.C. Marler, Larry Arrowood, David Norris, Tim Massengale, Lindel
Anderson, and others. The other thing that Bro. Mooney stresses about our
approach is that we not focus on theory and abstract theological principles.
Rather, he insists that every class show the church in operation in a
contemporary world, and how our teaching impacts the challenges of the
near-21st century world.
Just my little plug...
