Before I go on, I want to make it abundantly clear that I am not bashing Bible
College. In fact, I think that our Bible Colleges are wonderful and that I have
been extremely impressed with some of the things that I have heard about them.
However, I would like to offer some TRUE insight from some people that I know
that have attended Bible College.
1) I don't know ANYONE who ever went to a Bible College who openly regret their
decision to attend. (And I know several people who went.)
2) I know one man who is a Pastor of a church (was a full-time evangelist for
about 6 years before becoming a pastor) who went to Bible College and left after
one semester because he didn't feel he was learning anything he didn't already
know AND because he was not allowed to preach his first year there. He was
already in demand to preach before he went to school. I sould mention that this
man has very profound knowledge of the Scripture.
3) I know a pastor (also a full-time evangelist for several years) that went to
bible college for three years.) He was a backslidden preachers kid when he went
to school, but soon prayed through and was called to preach. He is now 30 years
old and is pursuing a business degree from a secular university in order to run
the church's finances, etc. more effectively and train other pastors to do the
same. Interestingly, when I was thinking of going to a Bible College after I
got my B.S. from Ball State University, I asked this friend of mine what he
thought. He thought that *for me* Bible College would be a waste of time. This
man also strongly believes that we need more ministers who are professionally
trained with degrees in psychology or other counseling related fields.
4) I know a young lady (my age) that went to Bible College for two years.
Although she learned a lot and had a great time (doesn't regret going), she
would now like to go to a secular university to study nursing. I asked her if
she had it to do all over again would she have made a different choice. Her
answer, "NO!"
5) I know a Pastor who never went to Bible College or a secular school, but
wishes that he would have went to a secular school to take some classes in
psychology or counseling.
6) I know a lot of people who went to Bible School and are unbelievable workers
in the Kingdom of God.
7) I know a lot of people who went to Bible School and are now backslidden.
8) I know a lot of people who went to secular universities that use their
skills and training for the Kingdom of God.
9) I know a lot of people who went to secular universities who backslid and
serve mammon.
There is no right decision or wrong decision. Follow the direction of the Lord
and follow your dreams. If you pray and have a strong relationship with God
your dreams WILL BE God's plans for your life.
Your brother in Christ Jesus, our King and God,
Bro. Kirk
