>>>While on the topic of tongues and interpretation,
I have to mention something. One night during a service
I went to in Bloomington, a tongues and interpretation was
given. Now everytime one is given, I myself usually can sense
when one is about to occur, or just feel the spirit of God very
strongly during one. Well, when this one was given, I didn't
feel right. I didn't sense a presence or, it was just ackward.
When the interpretation was given, the person said "and God said.."
Well, I kept quiet about it for a few weeks and then asked about it
to the person I ws with that night(someone I consider more spiritual
than I)and they told me, they too didn't feel right during it.
What do you guys and gals make of this?<<<
IMHO, I don't think that EVERY single time an interpretation of tongues is given
that it is sent by God. But, I also don't think because the interpretation
given states "and God said..." that it cannot be authentic. Our former
(retired) pastor, Bro. F.R. Martin often concluded an interpretation with the
phrase "thus saith the Lord." There is no doubt in my mind that these messages
were from God.
Back to my main point...I think sometimes people can get so overzealious and
want to do something for God so bad that they force a tongues/interpretation and
the message has not really come straight from God. I have heard several that I
did not feel right about and thought that perhaps someone may have gotten to
carried away.
BTW, I once heard a Pentecostal minister teach that an authentic
tongues/interpretation will always be given by 2 or (at most) 3 individuals.
He cited 1 Corinthians 12 (I think). This particular minister was convinced
that it was not scriptural for a person to speak in tongues and then immediately
give the interpretation. Instead, he claimed that, according to the Bible, at
least two individuals must give a tongues message and that it should be
interpreted by one individual (which could or could not be one of the
individuals who gave one of the messages in tongues. I have read Paul's
teaching several times and I am kind of inclined to agree with this minister,
based solely on what the Bible says. What do you all think about this??
