When discussing "pulpit language," several commented on the change in
word meanings from the King James dates until now. I commented that I
would send more info about the KJV to those interested. Well, I did
but I was having problems with my email at home, so it was returned.
So......here it is again for those interested.

=========================================

I previously mentioned that the date of the KJV with which most of us
are familiar is not 1611. The "revision" of the 1611 version that is
commonly called the KJV is the 1769 edition called the "Blaney
Revision." Apparently this revision differs from the original 1611
version approximately 75,000 times.

In actually, the 1611 contained many typographical errors. Some are
pretty famous such as one in which "Jesus" was accidentally replaced by
"Judus." At any rate, the 1769 version corrected many of the
punctuation, spelling and other errors and (get this) updated some of
the language that had already become outdated. To reinforce the point
that some of you made in recent threads, yes language does become
outdated. Surely if a need was felt after only 158 years to update
language in the KJV there must be a much large gulf between today's
English and that of the Elizabethian Era.

Sorry to burst the bubbles of any "King James Only" folks out there,
but there were many revisions of the 1611 version both before and after
1769, but the best received is the "Blaney Revision" which we all
probably use on a regular basis. Although the Bible itself is
infallible, translations are not. I would even go as far to say that
today's KJV is probably not even the most accurate in translation in
light of various texts that have been discovered since its
translation. But, it is still my favorite by far.

Yours in Jesus Christ our Lord,
Bro. Kirk
