We could look at the internet as the UPC looked at tv.
The television had no true spirit lifting stuff on it and
was more wordly than spiritual, so...out goes television.
The UPC does not use the tv market for any reasons. If we
did it would go against our beliefs.
Now the internet. Just as the tv, we could use it for a
positive reason. Just as the tv, more crud and junk is on
there than spiritual.
By allowing it, will it bring a weak apostolic believer
to sin?
The internet does provide many open doors to spreading
the gospel. Example, my pastor can now e-mail madagascar
in a matter of minutes where it usually took weeks to get a
snail mail over. The posting of our beliefs on the internet
can help bring someone to christ. Hey, web pages our good
advertisements for our churches.
But once again, I think the main question that will sooner
or later be asked is not how positive the internet can be,
but how damaging it can be to a persons soul.
Notice I didn't even bring up how it can further take away
from our spiritual time. Many things can do that, and that
is why we should take that in consideration for anything we
do.
I am for the internet in spreading the gospel. I also see
how it can be damaging to many. If the UPC was to bring
down a decision and place the internet as a thing we should
not be around, then so be it, I would follow my pastors decision.
However, I pray that the UPCI would really break down the
internet and not judge it as a whole. ie. web, e-mail, chat, etc.
If anything, I find the e-mail to be the most valuable thing for
anyone to have.
God Bless
