Regarding a great link, Bro. Basset's seminal response on the
ramifications of an internet presence is available from the
Higher-Fire Archives at:

   http://eli.wariat.org/upc/net/higher-fire/09-96/msg00642.html

The archives are subscribed like any other human user to the mailing
list. They receive postings as they occur. The mail sits in a queue,
and then every hour, the queue is read and processed and the indeces
are updated. You can always find any posting within an hour of its
release (or 2 hours if it is released right on the top of the hour).
The archives are updated at the top of every hour, so if you want to
check for something new, just check about 2 minutes after the top of
the hour.

While the archives are indexed by all of the major search engines,
they take some time to pass through and update their index. I am
looking into other ways that the archives may be queried without
waiting for the web crawlers to pass through. I have seen the
Pipermail package, and I think it looks good, but the distribution
site has not been up lately, so I have not been able to ftp a copy to
evaluate.
