H-F Netiquette-lets

Greetings Saints in Jesus name!
As one of the two moderator/owners of Higher-Fire, it has come to my
attention that there are saints on the list that are abusing some of the
netiquette guidelines that you received (or should have received) when
you first were subscribed to the list.
As a reminder, I'm going to start posting netiquette reminders, I'll
call them "Nettiquette-lets" so that you can be reminded on the different
guidelines in byte size chunks instead of the whole netiquette feast as
has been posted in the past.
HIGHER-FIRE Netiquette
1. Have you captured more of the original post than is necessary?
If the first original word of your response isn't on the first page of your
post, you've got a problem. Don't quote someone else's entire post to
reply to it. Simply copy the relevant parts. Many mailers have a function
that will automatically copy the entire post putting in the ">"s for you.
Use this function with caution, and if you do use it, delete the irrelevant
lines. It's annoying to have to page down about 4 times before you can
read any fresh material. It also takes up precious disk space because it
makes your post larger.

This is a big infraction in my mind. Remember to cut out all of a prev.
post that doesn't apply to what you are respoding to. It's kinda like
a minister that quotes all of John 11 so that he can use only the 35th
verse "Jesus wept". Nobody likes to read *way* more than what they
absolutely have to. Remember that everyone else receives the other posts
so they shouldn't really nead a large volume of quoted previous posts to
refresh their mind as to what the last guy said. This kind of infraction
only increases the volume of mail. The larger the volume, the more the
saints want to unsubscribe because they can't handle it. Keep it down.
+--------------------------------------------------------------------------+
B. Are you monopolizing the conversation by posting too much?
Instead of replying at length to each message in a thread, compile
your replies into one post. This forces you to think about such
things as structure and reasoned argument as you pull together the
many lines of thought in a thread. It is also much more pleasant
to read.

We have as of late, started to HOLD the deliveries of H-F to twice a day.
Once in the early-a.m. and once in the mid-p.m. This gives plenty of
to think about what you want to say and how you should combine posts.
I want you to say what you want to say, I'd rather it done in a lessor
number of chunks.
+--------------------------------------------------------------------------+
I must say that over the last few weeks I've *thoroughly* enjoyed not having
to read every jot and tiddle posted by the saints of H-F prior to a post's
occurance. I think Bro. Masoner feels much the same way. It's been kind of
a vacation of sorts.
However, with some of the abusses that have been occuring on H-F, I'm
*tempted* to yank the list back into moderation. Or, I'm just as equally
as *tempted* to warn the abusers with a form-letter of some kind about the
infraction and that if it happens anymore, I'll send the command to the
listproc to IGNORE anything from the one that just can't seem to get the
idea as so what's proper.
Thanks much for your longsuffering and understanding.
Bro. Tyler
