In The Eye of The Beholder

There once were two terminally ill men who shared a hospital room. One
gentleman, Bill, occupied the bed closest to the only window in the room,
and was able to gaze out of it all day. The other man, Bob, was bedridden
on the other side of the room, and so was unable to see what lay beyond the
window.

Bob commented one day about how he never got to see out of the window, so
Bill offered to describe what he saw. Day after day, Bill would paint vivid
pictures of children playing in the park, couples sitting close to one
another on the bench, the leaves turning beautiful shades of autumn, the
sun playing off the water fountain, and many other wonderful scenes of
life.

The sad day came when Bill passed away. After a time of mourning, Bob
requested that he be moved to Bill's bed, closer to the window. Maybe, he
thought, he would see Bill in his mind's eye a little clearer if he could
gaze at all the things his friend had described to him.

When morning came with the sunrise, Bob awoke and eagerly sat up and looked
out the window. Then he began to cry as he realized how much his beloved
friend had cared about his happiness, for the only thing he could see was a
brick wall.
